Damian Berens is a German neoclassical composer and philosopher whose music moves between silence and sound, shadow and light.
After decades of combining his creative work with music pedagogy, he turned his attention fully to neoclassical piano composition in 2024.
His music is deeply connected to transformation, memory and place. A profound personal turning point in the landscapes of Haukeli, Norway, found its musical expression in Transcendence — a piece about leaving the weight of the past behind and moving towards a clearer horizon.
Travel continues to shape his work. His compositions often emerge in moments of stillness and transition. In 2025, experiences in New York, Stonehenge and Ireland during the Equinox became part of the inspiration for Waves of the Wizard.
For Berens, composition is less an act of construction than of listening — allowing music to arrive.
